Character: Admiral Commodore James Norrington
Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean
I intend to see to it that any man who sails under a pirate flag or wears a pirate brand gets what he deserves: a short drop and a sudden stop.

A brave and honourable man, James Norrington rose quickly through the ranks of the Royal Navy to become a respected Commodore, feared by pirates throughout the Caribbean.
On the day of his promotion, Norrington proposes to Elizabeth Swann, the governor’s daughter, whom he loves deeply. The moment is somewhat spoiled when Elizabeth falls from a cliff and is recused by Jack Sparrow, who had been attempting to commander a nearby ship.
When Elizabeth is kidnapped by Barbossa and the crew of the Black Pearl, Norrington quickly sails in search of her, rescuing the woman he loves from the island on which she and Jack Sparrow had been marrooned. Will Turner, his rival for Elizabeth’s affections, is still onboard the Pearl, and he agrees to go to his rescue for Elizabeth’s sake, despite being aware of Turner’s feelings towards his fiancee.
After returning to Port Royal, he allows Jack Sparrow to escape the gallows, because, despite the fact that he is bound by duty and by the law, Norrington is able to discern between what is lawful and what is right. He also allows Elizabeth to break off the engagement, holding her happiness in higher regard than his own feelings, and recognising that she would only be truly happy with Will.
The Commodore leaves Port Royal in pursuit of Sparrow, but a series of misadventures – including a violent hurricane – result in the loss of his ship and crew, as well as his reputation. His role in Jack Sparrow’s escape also resulting in Lord Cutler Beckett issuing an arrest warrant for him.
Now a broken and bitter man, Norrington later emerges in Tortuga and joins the crew of the Black Pearl. He is driven by a determination to regain his reputation and his life, and to revenge himself on Jack Sparrow and William Turner, who he blames for his downfall.
He achieves this revenge when he give Cutler Beckett the heart of Davy Jones in exchange for clemency.
Spoilers for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End follow...
Promoted to Admiral, Norrington sails on the Flying Dutchman with Davy Jones, carrying out Beckett’s orders. He is overjoyed to find out Elizabeth is alive when she is captured by the crew, but she refuses to acknowledge him, associating the Admiral with the East India Company, who killed her father.
That night, Norrington helps Elizabeth and her men escape the ship. The escape is interupted by the deranged Bootstrap Bill, but Norrington manages to buy Elizabeth enough time to leave the ship, at the cost of his own life. Before she does, he kisses her, saying that although their destinys were intertwinned, they were sadly never joined.
I sadly do not own the character of Commodore Norrington, who is the property of the Walt Disney Corporation, or Jack Davenport, who plays him. No harm or copyright infringement is intended by this journal, which is used by me,
